Los Angelinos were shocked last Monday when they learned that their beloved Pacific and ArcLight Theatres would not be re-opening after the pandemic. The announcement came in a letter sent to the Los Angeles Times by the Decurion Company, the corporate owners of the two theatre chains, which includes the landmark Cinerama Dome and ArcLight Hollywood theatres. Prior to the pandemic, Decurion’s Pacific and ArcLight brands operated 300 screens in California, offering a top-shelf moviegoing experience that had made them popular entertainment destinations for locals. Many hope that another exhibitor will step in to take over operations of these established locations in the heart of the U.S.’s largest box office market.
