There’s light at the end of the tunnel now for exhibitors and once the movie-hating governors of NY and California allow cinemas to start reopening, the 2021 recovery will get underway.
It’s encouraging to see vaccinations finally happening as the post-holiday surge in COVID cases subsides across the U.S. Another positive sign: NRG research shows Americans want to resume moviegoing. NRG found teens and -25M were the most likely demos to do so with both around 60%. That’s exactly the right audience to drive big films opening through July like:
- 3/31 – WB/Legendary’s sci-fi action thriller GODZILLA VS. KONG
- 4/16 – WB/NL’s fantasy action adventure MORTAL KOMBAT
- 5/7 – Disney/Marvel’s sci-fi action-adventure BLACK WIDOW
- 5/28 – Universal/Original’s action-adventure F9
- 6/4 – WB/NL’s horror thriller THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT
- 6/25 – Sony/Marvel’s sci-fi horror VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE
- 7/2 – Paramount/Skydance’s action drama TOP GUN: MAVERICK (pictured – Tom Cruise & Monica Barbaro)
- 7/9 – Disney/Marvel’s fantasy action adventure SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS
