Warner Bros. Discovery and A24 announced an exclusive, multi-year deal through which all of A24’s theatrical titles will be made available in the post-theatrical window on the Max streaming platform and on HBO and Cinemax cable channels.
The financial terms and length of the partnership were not announced. However, it’s worth noting that A24’s “pay-one” deal with rival network Showtime expired on November 1st, so it seems likely that WBD was successful in poaching those rights from the coveted independent studio.
A24’s rise to fame has been built on a series of critically acclaimed, award-winning features including MOONLIGHT (2016), UNCUT GEMS (2019), and EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE, ALL AT ONCE (2022). This has also allowed them to build a strong reputation with young filmgoers as one of the only independent studios that can achieve success in theatrical distribution for original titles, as opposed to big-studio sequels and franchise films.
Similarly, HBO has long been known as a brand that emphasizes artistic quality in their content, so the two brands appear to fit well together, with A24 features slotted alongside acclaimed series on Max such as SUCCESSION and WHITE LOTUS. Look for all films from the A24 library as well as new titles such as PRISCILLA, IRON CLAW, and DREAM SCENARIO to be available on Max shortly.
