Marcus Theatres is rolling out a new subscription program for its loyal members, including admission to a selection of new small and mid-sized films. The basic tier of the new MovieFlex program costs $9.99 per month, and provides customers with a ticket to one movie per month – “Any movie, any time!” A premium tier called MovieFlex+ costs $14.99 per month and expands access to also include unlimited admissions to movies included in the special selection. Both programs also offer discounts on concessions and other perks.
Marcus is working with its studio partners to define which films can be included in the select movies list. In some cases, major studio releases may be included in the “select” list after playing through their initial weeks. MovieFlex+ subscribers also have access to “Flex Up”, buying a ticket for $5 to premium new releases which are not (yet) included on the select movies list.
Marcus’ Chairman and CEO Greg Marcus told Deadline, “We want to be a very open book and share what’s happening with the studios, and get their feedback. There’s work to do on companion tickets and families. Once we get through that, we to figure out what the demand is. We want this to be a win-win-win for everyone.”
Marcus Theatres is the country’s fourth-largest cinema chain, operating more than 90 theatres in 17 U.S. states with over 1100 screens. The MovieFlex+ program is not yet available in all of Marcus’ markets.
