Global Road Entertainment

Distributor - INACTIVE

Description

Global Road Entertainment began as Open Road Films, a distribution company started by theater chains AMC Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group in March 2011. In August 2017, it was purchased by Tang Media Partners, who merged it with the also then-purchased IM Global, resulting in the current name. In August 2018, management of the company shifted from Donald Tang to primary lenders Bank of America and East West Bank, as he wasn't able to secure funds for Global Road. As a result, the company's September release of City of Lies was put on hold; the film they were allowed to distribute next, A.X.L., flopped at the box office. As a result, the company was forced to lay off their employees without severance, and soon after, was sued by Miramax over loans of City of Lies. In September, Global Road filed for bankruptcy, and soon after began auctioning its subsidiaries. In the summer of 2020, the company was revived as part of Raven Capital Management.
