Valerio Ruiz
Valerio Ruiz wrote and directed the documentary film Behind the White Glasses (2015), which was produced by his production company, White Glasses Film Srl, in coproduction with Recalcati Multimedia Srl. The film, dedicated to Lina Wertmüller’s career, was presented at 72nd Venice Film Festival in Venice Classics competition. It was nominated for the Silver Ribbon Award as Best Documentary about Cinema and received the Audience Choice Award at the 2016 Syracuse International Film Festival in the US. Behind the White Glasses has been distributed in several Countries. Among them, USA, Argentina, Uruguay, The Netherlands, Finland, Swizerland and France. His previous works are divided between cinema, theatre and television. After ten years of collaboration with Lina Wertmüller, Valerio Ruiz has been collaborating director for her opera production of Verdi’s Macbeth (2016) at Teatro Municipale Giuseppe Verdi di Salerno, with Daniel Oren conducting the orchestra. His work includes screenwriting and assistant directing for the documentary Roma, Napoli, Venezia, in a Rossini crescendo (2014), directed by Lina Wertmüller and produced by RAI under the patronage of Fondazione Rossini di Pesaro, and for Wertmüller’s last TV Movie, Mannaggia alla Misera (2009). He wrote and directed the documentary interview Francesco Rosi, a real Carmen (2012) and the short film Piazza Fellini (2011), starring Fellini’s muse Sandra Milo. Ruiz was also assistant director in several stage productions, such as the Globe Theatre’s Production of Shakespeare’s As you like it directed by Marco Carniti and Raffaele Curi’s Transits of Venus, produced by Fondazione Alda Fendi Esperimenti. He graduated in Communication Sciences at La Sapienza University of Rome and studied in Paris at Universitée Panthéon Assas.
