Storm Reid (birthname: Storm Reid) is one of the most successful and promising young Black actors in film and television, bursting into view in her debut at ten years old in Steve McQueen’s acclaimed Oscar-winning drama, 12 Years a Slave (2013). Reid’s next significant supporting role was opposite Jacob Lattimore and Seychelle Gabriel in writer-director J.D. Dillard’s superhero drama, Sleight (2016), earning $4 million on a $250,000 budget.

Reid was cast in a supporting role in A Happening of Monumental Proportions (2017), the feature directorial debut of actor Judy Greer, with Common, Bradley Whitford, Anders Holm, Bob Riggle, Allison Janney, Jennifer Garner, John Cho, Kumail Nanjani, and Keanu Reeves. Storm Reid’s first starring performance was in Disney’s disastrous version of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time (2018), directed by Ava DuVernay and co-starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Zach Galifianakis, Chris Pine, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, losing over $130 million making it one of the largest box-office failures in Hollywood history, and universally panned except for Reid’s well-reviewed performance.

Reid co-starred with David Oyelowo in writer-director Jacob Aaron Estes’ sci-fi thriller, Don’t Let Go (2019), with Mykelti Williamson and grossing $5.3 million after a Sundance premiere. Reid joined another thriller movie with Elisabeth Moss in writer-director Leigh Whannell’s loose adaptation for Universal Pictures of H.G. Wells’s The Invisible Man (2020), with Aldis Hodge, Harriet Dyer, Michael Dorman, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and earning a powerful $144.5 million on a $7 million budget.

Reid had a small role in James Gunn’s standalone sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad (2021), starring Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, and Pete Davidson, but the DC Comics project failed to return a profit grossing only $168.7 million on a $185 million budget.

After playing support in the little-seen crime thriller, One Way (2021), with Colson Baker and Kevin Bacon, Reid co-starred in the “Screenlife” thriller, Missing (2023), from co-directors and co-writers Will Merrick and Nick Johnson, featuring Nia Long, Joaquim de Almeida, and Ken Leung, and projected to earn in excess of $30 million at the global box office. Reid’s third starring role was in The Nun 2 (2023), the ninth entry in The Conjuring Universe franchise from writer-producer James Wan, and featuring Taissa Farmiga.
