Spenser Cohen
Spenser Cohen is an American-born filmmaker who has specialized in writing, directing, and/or executive producing movies in the science fiction and horror genres, starting with his first feature credit as co-screenwriter (with Brad Kane) and story writer of the sci-fi action movie, Extinction (2018), directed by Ben Young and co-starring Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan, Mike Colter, Amelia Crouch, and originally set for theatrical release by Universal Pictures but pulled from the schedule and then released on Netflix.
Cohen co-wrote the screenplay (with Roland Emmerich and Harold Kloser) and executive produced the sci-fi disaster movie, Moonfall (2022), directed by Emmerich and co-starring Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Peña, Charlie Plummer, and Donald Sutherland, and losing money (a poor $67 million) for U.S. distributor Lionsgate and backers from the U.S., Canada, China, and the United Kingdom.
Cohen was a story writer (with Kurt Wimmer and Tad Daggerhart) and executive producer of the Scott Waugh-directed sequel, Expend4bles (2023), co-starring Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Dolph Lundgren, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Randy Couture, and Andy Garcia, and proving to be a money-loser for distributor Lionsgate with a $51 million gross against $100 million costs.
Cohen, after making a few short films, made his feature film debut as co-director/co-writer/executive producer (with co-director/co-writer Anna Halberg) with the supernatural horror movie, Tarot (2024), based on Nicholas Adams’ novel, Horrorscope, co-starring Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika Vandanapu, and Wolfgang Novogratz, and which was produced and released by Screen Gems/Sony Pictures.
Spenser Cohen was the writer and executive producer of the Danis Goulet-directed thriller, House/Wife (date to be announced), with Alice Braga, Kris Holden-Reid, Gregory Ambrose Calderone, and the voice Sarah Gadon. Cohen was a writer of Distant (date to be announced), co-directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck and co-starring Anthony Ramos, Naomi Scott, and Zachary Quinto, which was produced by DreamWorks Pictures and Reliance Entertainment and released by Universal Pictures.
