Rupert Sanders (birthname: Rupert Miles Sanders) graduated from TV commercial production to feature filmmaking with his debut directorial assignment on Universal Pictures’ Snow White movie, Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, and Toby Jones, and whose global gross of over $396 million (against $170 million costs) triggered the sequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016).

Sanders shifted from the Brothers Grimm to science fiction for his second feature as director with the English-language manga adaptation, Ghost in the Shell (2017), starring Scarlett Johansson, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt, and Juliette Binoche, co-produced via Paramount Pictures/Amblin Partners/DreamWorks Pictures, and grossing a disappointing $170 million globally on an estimated (though disputed) budget of $110 million.

Sanders returned to the director’s chair for his third feature movie, the long-awaited remake The Crow (2024), starring Bill Skarsgård, FKA Twigs, and Danny Huston, and released by Lionsgate Films.

Rupert Sanders was born and raised in the Westminster area of London, England by parents Thalia and Michael Sanders (ophthalmologist). Sanders attended Kingston School of Art for a year and then transferred to University of the Arts London’s Central St. Martins, from which he graduated with a BA degree in graphic design. Sanders was married to actor-producer Liberty Ross from 2003 to 2014 when they divorced; the couple has two children, Tennyson and Skyla. Sanders’s height is 6’ 4”.
