Patrick Delage is a French-born, Paris-based veteran animator in feature films who got his start with Gaumont as an artist on Asterix and the Big Fight (1989) and with Disney as an assistant animator on DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990) and senior animator on A Goofy Movie (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Hercules (1997), Tarzan (1999), The Emperor’s New Groove (2000), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001), Winnie the Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year (2002), The Jungle Book 2 (2003), and The Wild (2006). Delage stepped up to the post of a Disney lead animator on Ratatouille (2007) and WALL-E (2008).

Delage jumped over to Illumination Entertainment as a character animator on Despicable Me 2 (2013), and then was animation director on Sing (2016), The Secret Lives of Pets (2019), and Sing 2 (2021), after working in a similar capacity on French-based animation movies Zarafa (2012) and Asterix and Obelix: Mansion of the Gods (2014).

Delage had previously directed two short animated films, including the award-winning Lune et le loup/The Moon and the Wolf (2014), but finally rose to the rank of co-director on his first feature with Illumination/Universal Pictures’ long-anticipated sequel, Despicable Me 4 (2024), with director Chris Renaud, and starring the voice of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Will Ferrell.

Personal Details

Patrick Delage was born and raised in Désertines, France, by his parents. Delage attended and graduated from the Paris-based art school, L’école Duperré Paris, and then Delage attended the leading French animation school, Gobelins. Delage lives in Paris.
