A British actor, trained in Shakespearean theater, who has gained a reputation working with French auteur filmmakers, Olivia Ross has expanded to work in English-language cinema, such as director Marc Forster’s White Bird: A Wonder Story (2022), starring Gillian Anderson and Helen Mirren. Ross’ feature film debut was in Mia Hansen-Løve’s acclaimed writing/directing debut, All Is Forgiven (2006), starring Paul Blain and Marie-Christine Friedrich.

Ross’ next project was in the cast for writer-director Zabou Breitman’s Je l’aimais (2009), with Daniel Auteuil and Marie-Josée Croze. Olivia Ross then reunited with Hansen-Løve in the cast of her emotional second feature, Father of My Children (2009), with Louis-Do de Lencquesaing and Chiara Caselli. Ross continued working with major French filmmakers as part of the massive cast of Olivier Assayas’ epic, Carlos (2009), with Edgar Ramirez portraying the notorious global terrorist.

Four years later, Olivia Ross was cast in the France/U.K. co-production, White Lie (2013), directed by Nyima Cartier, and co-starring Ann Firbank, Belinda Low, and David Birkin. Ross reunited with writer-director Mia Hansen-Løve for her well-received 2014 drama about a French House music DJ, Eden, starring Félix de Givry and Pauline Etienne.

Ross earned her first co-starring and above-the-title role in writer-director Marine Place’s Souffler plus fort que la mer (Breathing Under Water) (2016), starring Aurélien Recoing and Corine Masiero. Another reunion, with filmmaker Assayas, marked Ross’ casting in his fascinating Personal Shopper (2016), starring Kristen Stewart, winning Best Director for Assayas at the Cannes Film Festival.

Once again with Assayas, Ross played opposite Juliette Binoche and Guillaume Canet in the drama-comedy, Non-Fiction (2018), premiering in competition at the Venice Film Festival. Ross continued her collaborations with French filmmaking auteurs in 2019 with writer-director Benoît Jacquot in Casanova, Last Love, co-starring Vincent Lindon, Stacy Martin, and Valeria Golino.

For her first American movie, Olivia Ross joined the cast of director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s action-fantasy, The Old Guard (2020), starring Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Ross then co-starred in the German/Austrian/Swiss  1960s scientific thriller directed by Timm Kroger, The Theory of Everything (2023), starring David Bennent and Hanns Zischler.
