Maura Axelrod

Maura Axelrod is a journalist, writer, and producer. She began her career at ABC News in New York as a writer and field producer. She lived and worked in the Middle East and the Caribbean region, producing television news and documentaries reporting from locations like Afghanistan, Belarus, Egypt, Brazil, Haiti and Guantanamo. Her journalism work is focused on war and conflict and its aftermath, particularly on women and children. As an independent news producer, Maura’s work has appeared on outlets worldwide, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, BBC, ITN, Al Jazeera, PBS News Hour, National Geographic Channel, The New York Times, and The Daily Show. Maura produced and directed a feature-length documentary, titled Maurizio Cattelan: Be Right Back about the contemporary artist Maurizio Cattelan. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, as a special presentation at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. It also aired on the BBC’s prestigious “Imagine” series, and it was the film selection at Art Basel Miami in 2017. She is currently producing a narrative limited series about the World War II Siege of Leningrad, written by Michael Hirst, based on the book by “Leningrad: The Epic Siege of WWII”, by Anna Reid. She is also in production on the feature documentary Veteran – a documentary portrait of the lives and struggles of US military veterans.

Maura is an active member of the Writers Guild of America.
