Jonathan Majors

Jonathan Majors (birthname: Jonathan Michael Majors) is a much-in-demand actor whose fresh approach was first acclaimed in his breakthrough lead performance in writer-director Joe Talbot’s superb U.S. indie film, The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019).

While studying at the Yale Drama School for his MFA, Majors earned his first role in the ABC miniseries, When We Rise (2017), directed by a set of major American filmmakers, including Gus van Sant. Majors’ first big-screen role was in writer-director Scott Cooper’s Hostiles (2017), starring Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, and Wes Studi, and premiering at the Telluride film festival.

Under Yann Demange’s direction, Majors was cast in a supporting role in the true-crime drama White Boy Rick (2018), starring Matthew McConaughey, Richie Merritt, Bel Powley, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Eddie Marsan, Bruce Dern, and Piper Laurie. After a supporting role in the commercially and critically disappointing Out of Blue (2018), writer-director Carol Morley’s adaptation of Martin Amis’ novel Night Train, starring Patricia Clarkson and Toby Jones, Majors co-starred in Talbot’s stirring, Sundance-premiering The Last Black Man in San Francisco, co-starring the film’s co-writer, Jimmie Falls, with Rob Morgan, Mike Epps, and Danny Glover, and grossing over double its $2 million budget.

Majors had a major role in the commercially failed sci-fi thriller Captive State (2019) from writer-director Rupert Wyatt and then co-starred in the indie drama Gully (2019), with Kelvin Harrison Jr., Charlie Plummer, Jacob Lattimore, Amber Heard, and Terrence Howard, and premiering at the Tribeca film festival. A third 2019 indie film with Majors in a supporting role was co-writer/director Max Winkler’s drama Jungleland, with Charlie Hunnam and Jack O’Connell, premiering at the Toronto film festival.

The next significant big-screen role for Jonathan Majors was co-star under Spike Lee’s direction in Da 5 Bloods (2020), with Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isaiah Whitlock Jr., and Chadwick Boseman, and streaming on Netflix after a theatrical release was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Majors starred in another Netflix release, co-writer/director Jeymes Samuel’s well-received all-Black Western, The Harder They Fall (2021), with Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Regina King, Lindo, Lakeith Stanfield, and Danielle Deadwyler.

Again leading the cast, Majors took the starring spot in another period work, the Korean War-set Devotion (2022), directed by J.D. Dillard and with Glen Powell. In his first Marvel superhero movie, the Peyton Reed-directed Ant-Man and the Wasp sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), Majors (as Kang the Conqueror) co-starred with Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer. In another sequel, Majors played opposite director-star Michael B. Jordan’s Donnie Creed in Creed III (2023), with Tessa Thompson, Wood Harris, and Phylicia Rashad.

After this project, Majors headed the cast of writer-director Elijah Bynum’s amateur bodybuilding drama, Magazine Dreams (date to be announced), with Haley Bennett and Taylour Paige. Majors is set to resume his role of Kang in the MCU mega-production planned for 2025, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (which, with the planned 2026 Avengers: Secret Wars, concludes “Phase Six” of the MCU).
