Daniel Zovatto (birthname: Daniel Zovatto-Blanco) had his feature film debut as lead under Larry Fessenden’s direction in the poorly received Beneath (2013), about a man-eating catfish, with Mark Margolis. Another horror movie in 2013 for Zovatto was Innocence, co-written and directed by Hilary Brougher, with Linus Roache, and produced by Killer Films. Zovatto had a supporting role in director Lynn Shelton’s comedy, Laggies (2014), starring Keira Knightley, Chloë Grace Moretz, Sam Rockwell, Kaitlyn Dever, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, and Mark Webber, released by A24 and grossing $2.4 million.

Zovatto co-starred in writer-director David Robert Mitchell’s horror film, It Follows (2014), premiering in Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival, and earning a powerful $23.3 million worldwide on a $1.3 million budget. Zovatto’s knack for working in quality films continued with his casting in writer-director Greta Gerwig’s fine debut feature, Lady Bird (2017), starring Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, Tracy Letts, Lucas Hedges, Timothée Chalamet, and Beanie Feldstein, premiering at the Telluride film festival, earning five Oscar nominations including picture, director, screenplay and actress (for Ronan), and grossing $79 million or nearly eight times costs.

Zovatto’s solid credit roll continued with director Drake Doremus’ Newness (2017), with Nicholas Hoult, Laia Costa, and Danny Huston, and premiering at the Sundance Film Festival. Zovatto earned his biggest role in the early phase of his career opposite Russell Crowe in the true-story horror movie, The Pope’s Exorcist (2023), directed by Julius Avery. Zovatto co-starred in another true-life drama, in lead star Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, The Dating Game (date to be announced).
