Aric Floyd

Actor / Soundtrack

Aric Generette Floyd is an American actor and composer. He is the younger brother of actress Alexis Floyd (Inventing Anna (2022), The Bold Type (2017)). Both siblings were born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, to Mark Floyd, a lawyer and classically-trained tenor, and Lauren Generette, a youth orchestra director and classically-trained flutist. Floyd was first introduced to the performing arts at age five when he began training as a classical pianist. His interest in music soon led him to the world of musical theater, where he sometimes performed alongside his sister in local productions.

Floyd began his transition away from musicals with a role in the 2008-2009 touring production of the play “A Raisin in the Sun.” After several more stage performances, he made another career transition in 2013 with his first feature film, playing the quirky Jamal Lee in Underdogs (2013). The movie was also a debut as a film composer for Floyd, who contributed two original songs to its soundtrack. He has since been cast in several feature films, the most recent of which include Doors (2021) (Josh Peck, Lina Esco); Empire Waist (2024) (Rainn Wilson, Missi Pyle); and Playing with Beethoven (2020), in which he starred in the lead role of Josh Irving, a young concert pianist. His television credits include Days of Our Lives (1965) (NBC), Ballers (2015) (HBO), and Versus (2017) (Awesomeness).

Floyd attended Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio, graduating from high school in 2014. While a student there, he earned a scholarship to train at the American Shakespeare Center for his performance as a finalist in the 2013 ESU National Shakespeare Competition at Lincoln Center. Since 2015, he has pursued his acting career alongside his undergraduate education at Stanford University, where he studies physics and philosophy. Floyd is highly involved with the Effective Altruism community.
