Sam J. Levine (birthname: Samuel John Levine) began his animation filmmaking career with Disney as an in-between artist (Hercules in 1997), animator (Tarzan in 1999), breakdown artist (Fantasia 2000 in 1999), and story artist on Treasure Planet (2002), Home on the Range (2004, for which he also wrote the story and performed in the vocal cast), The Wild (2006), Meet the Robinsons (2007), and Bolt (2008).

Levine moved into animation directing in 2012, first for television—including 43 episodes of the Disney Channel series, Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero (2015-2017)—and finally for theatrical features, as co-director with Jared Stern of DC League of Super-Pets (2022), starring the voices of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.
