Michael Mohan is a director and writer who is most closely associated with actor Sydney Sweeney, with whom he has collaborated on multiple features. Mohan, after graduating in film production from Chapman University, was an assistant at Fox Searchlight’s independent filmmakers’ mentorship program, Fox Searchlab from 2000 to 2004.

Mohan was a director, cameraman, and editor of videos, promos, concerts, documentaries, and viral videos for Dangerbird Records from 2009 to 2010, while making shorts, videos, and commercials for the Sundance Institute, Atom Films, Warner Bros., Kill Rock Stars, and Merge Records. Mohan has worked with the Sundance Institute in various capacities since 2004, including as senior coordinator in the institute’s feature film program and as the institute’s video content producer.

Michael Mohan wrote and directed seven short films between 2003 and 2015, including Trick (2003), La dentista (2004), Initiation (2006), Casual Encounters (2007), Ex-Sex (2011), This is How You Die (2013), and Pink Grapefruit (2015). Mohan’s feature debut as director-writer of the black-and-white comedy, One Too Many Mornings (2010), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Mohan’s second feature as co-writer/director was the comedy-drama, Save the Date (2012), with Lizzy Caplan, Alison Brie, Martin Starr, Geoffrey Arend, and Mark Webber, and which premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and was released by IFC Films. Mohan wrote the story for writer-director Sherwin Shilati’s comedy-drama, People You May Know (2017), with Nick Thune, Halston Sage, and Kaily Smith Westbrook, and released by The Orchard.

Michael Mohan began his feature film collaboration with actor Sydney Sweeney with the erotic drama for which he was director-writer, The Voyeurs (2021), with Justice Smith, Ben Hardy, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo. Mohan continued with Sweeney as star (and also a producer) of the Catholic nun horror movie, Immaculate (2024), with Alvaro Morte, Benedetta Porcaroli, and Giorgio Colangeli, and which premiered at the South by Southwest film festival before a theatrical release by Neon.
