Marisa Abela (birthname: Marisa Gabrielle Abela) is a British actor who has been most widely seen in the recurring role of Yasmin in HBO’s series, Industry (2020-present), and had her first role in features as age 8 in co-writer/director Steven Rhys Lewis’ British indie thriller, Man in a Box (2008), with Alister O’Loughlin and Claudine Sinnett. Abela played an eye-catching, acclaimed supporting role in writer-director Jamie Adams’ romantic U.K. drama, She Is Love (2022), starring Haley Bennett and Sam Riley, which premiered at the London Film Festival and was released by Signature Entertainment.

Abela landed the role of Teen Talk Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s hit comedy, Barbie (2023), starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell, and turned into one of the most profitable movies in Warner Bros. history with a knockout $1.44 billion. Abela landed her first starring role, as late pop singer Amy Winehouse, in the musical biopic, Back to Black (2024), directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and featuring Jack O’Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville, which was released in the U.S. by Focus Features and in select British Commonwealth territories by StudioCanal.

Marisa Abela was born in Brighton, England, and was raised in Rottingdean, England, by actor Caroline Gruber (actor) and Angelo Abela (director/producer/actor). Abela has one older brother, Jack Abela. Marisa Abela attended and graduated from Roedean School, and studied drama at the Theatre Workshop. Abela studied law and history at University College London and began a career as a human rights attorney but then switched to an acting career. Abela then attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2019. Abela’s height is 5’ 5”.
