Marc Maron (birthname: Marcus David Maron) is a veteran stand-up comic who has specialized in mining personal and relationship angst for his humor and was one of the early adopters of the podcast medium, most prominently his show “WTF with Marc Maron,” with such guests as President Barack Obama, Paul McCartney, Jerry Seinfeld, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Chris Rock and “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels. He has been associated over the years with a who’s-who of the comedy world, including Janeane Garofalo, Louis CK, Sam Kinison, Jon Stewart, Denis Leary, and Steven Wright. 

After decades of work primarily in clubs, podcasts, radio, and TV, Marc Maron has recently appeared or starred in films, including the lead in the final movie directed by the late Lynn Shelton, Sword of Trust (2019). Along with brief supporting roles in Todd Phillips’ Joker (2019), opposite Joaquin Phoenix; Spenser Confidential (2020); and two music biopics–IFC Films’ David Bowie film, Stardust (2020) and the Jennifer Hudson-starring Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect (2021).

Maron appeared opposite Andrea Riseborough, Stephen Root, and Allison Janney in, To Leslie (2022), which premiered to acclaim at the 2022 South by Southwest Film Festival. He is a busy voice actor for movies, with DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys (2022) and the DC Comics’ family movie, DC League of Super-Pets (2022).

Personal Details

Marc Maron was raised in Wayne, N.J., by mother Toby Moran and father Barry Moran, whose work as a doctor and U.S. Air Force medical resident had the family moving around the U.S.—from Jersey to Alaska to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Maron graduated from the Albuquerque school system and then attended Boston University, where majored in English. He has been married twice, to Kimberly Reiss and comic Mishna Wolff. Marc Maron’s recent relationships include Jessica Sanchez, actor-singer Moon Zappa, visual artist Sarah Cain, and filmmaker Lynn Shelton until her death in 2020.
