Lily Sullivan is a rising Australian film and television actor, displaying considerable versatility in leads in genre movies and such sprawling sagas as the TV version of Annie Proulx’s novel, Barkskins (2020) and Fremantle Australia’s remake of Joan Lindsay’s novel, Picnic at Hanging Rock (2018). Sullivan’s feature debut was a major supporting role in writer-director P.J. Hogan’s comedy-drama, Mental (2012), starring Toni Collette, Anthony LaPaglia, Liev Schreiber, and Rebecca Gibney, earning eight Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts nominations (including one for Sullivan as Best Young Actor, an accolade she also received from the Film Critics Circle of Australia).

Sullivan’s next feature role was in producer-writer Phillippa Campey’s Galore (2014), co-starring with Ashleigh Cummings and premiering at the Melbourne and Berlin Film Festivals. Sullivan co-starred with John Luc and Timothy Spall in Sucker (2015), by screenwriter-playwright Lawrence Leung, and then joined co-star Daniel Radcliffe in the Bolivian-set adventure drama, Jungle (2017), grossing $2 million.

Sullivan co-starred in the segment titled “Killer Native” in the horror anthology movie, Dark Place (2019), written and directed by Bjorn Stewart and premiering at the Sydney Film Festival, scoring 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and set to be made as a feature to be titled Invasion of the Killer Natives. Co-starring with Brenton Thwaites and Joel Jackson, Sullivan was in the romantic fantasy, I Met a Girl (2020), directed by Luke Eve, and then was cast as the only on-screen actor in directed Matt Vesely’s and writer Lucy Campbell’s sci-fi thriller, Monolith (2022), premiering at the 2022 Adelaide Film Festival and then at the 2023 South by Southwest Film Festival.

Also at South by Southwest, Sullivan was seen as the star of writer-director Lee Cronin’s well-reviewed revival of the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise (2023), with Alyssa Sutherland. Sullivan starred in the psychological sci-fi thriller, Lunacy (date to be announced), directed by Daniel Askill and co-written by Lucy Bidwell and Gregory Stern.

Personal Details

Lily Sullivan was born and raised in the Brisbane, Australia suburb of Logan City by British-born parents, her artist mother and father, an importer of medical equipment. Sullivan was schooled at the grade school, John Paul College, and then graduated from Calvary Christian College in 2011. Although she planned to attend drama school, she won the audition on her first try at a professional acting role for Mental (2012). Sullivan won part of the 2015 Heath Ledger Scholarship, which earned her a trip to Los Angeles and masterclasses at the Sydney-based Screenwise Film and Television School.  Sullivan’s height is 5’ 8”.
