One of the stars of HBO’s hit comedy series, Silicon Valley (2014-2019), and the Netflix comedy series, Space Force (2020-2022), Jimmy O. Yang (birthname: Au-Yeung Man-sing) has gradually built a presence in live-action and voice actor in the movies. His first credited role was in Peter Berg’s dramatic film on the Boston July 4th bombing, Patriots Day (2016), with Mark Wahlberg, followed by the black comedy, El Camino Christmas (2017), with Vincent D’Onofrio.

Yang was cast in a number of minor supporting roles from 2018 to 2022, including those in the mega-hit Crazy Rich Asians (2018), and voice performances in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019), Sony’s Shanghai-based animation fantasy, Wish Dragon (2021), and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022). Yang’s first starring role was in Steve Byrne’s comedy about stand-up comedy, The Opening Act (2020), with Alex Moffat and Cedric the Entertainer. Yang co-starred with Nina Dobrev and Darren Barnet in Hernan Jimenez’s rom-com, Love Hard (2021).

Yang followed with one of his biggest roles to date in Jay Chandrasekhar’s DreamWorks comedy, Easter Sunday (2022), with Jo Koy, Tia Carrere, and Tiffany Haddish. Yang was a lead voice in the Chinese-themed, Netflix-produced animation adventure, The Monkey King (2023), with BD Wong, Stephanie Hsu, Hoon Lee, Bowen Yang, and Jo Koy. For Paramount, Yang played a supporting role in the football comedy, 80 for Brady (date to be announced), with Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, Sally Field, Billy Porter, Glynn Turman, and Tom Brady.

Personal Details

Hong Kong-born Jimmy O. Yang was born as Au-Yeung Man-sing to parents (including father and future actor Richard Ouyang)  who were originally from Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, and had emigrated to British-governed Hong Kong. The family emigrated to the United States and settled in Los Angeles, where members of their extended family already lived.

Yang attended John Burroughs Middle School in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and then Beverly Hills High School. Yang attended and earned an economics degree from the University of California, San Diego. His height is 5’ 6¼”.
