Jessica Thompson (birthname: Jessica M. Thompson) has come out of the film editing suite to become what Jerry Lewis once termed “The Total Film Maker”: Thompson has worked as a casting director, production manager, producer, film editor, writer, and director.

She is co-writer/producer/director of her second and most recent narrative feature, the gothic mystery The Invitation (2022), with Nathalie Emmanuel, Thomas Doherty, Stephanie Corneliussen, and Alana Boden, and released by Screen Gems.

Prior to her features, Thompson wrote, edited, and directed three short films as well as served as an assistant or lead editor on seven documentary features, including Liz Garbus’ acclaimed docu-portrait, Love, Marilyn (2012) for HBO, and the Emmy-nominated Back on Board: Greg Louganis.

Thompson stepped up to feature filmmaking in 2017 with her debut narrative feature, The Light of the Moon, with Stephanie Beatriz and Michael Stahl-David, and won the narrative feature Audience Award at the 2017 South by Southwest Film Festival, and also screened at the London, Woodstock, Greenwich, and Mill Valley Film Festivals.

Personal Details

Sydney-born Jessica Thompson was raised in suburban Sydney. Her parents claim Maltese heritage. Thompson attended the University of Technology Sydney and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Arts and Production. She joined the prestigious Sydney Theatre Company following her university studies. Thompson’s filmmaking career began as a film editor in Sydney until 2010 when she moved to New York City. Thompson’s height is 5’ 6”.
