Gabriel LaBelle is an actor cast by Steven Spielberg (and beating out over 2000 other young actors) to play a fictionalized version of his young self, named Sammy Fabelman, in his mainly autobiographical drama, The Fabelmans (2022), starring Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch, and winner of the Toronto Film Festival’s People’s Choice Award.
LaBelle had his on-screen debut in an episode of the Canadian series, Motive (2013), with his father Rob serving as producer. LaBelle’s first feature roles were in the Warner Bros. kids’ movie, Max 2: White House Hero (2017), and writer-director Peter Ricq’s Canadian indie horror-comedy, Dead Shack (2017), premiering at the Vancouver and Fantasia Film Festivals.
LaBelle won the TIFF Rising Star Award at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival for The Fabelmans. LaBelle starred in writer-director Adam Rehmeier’s comedy-romance, The Snack Shack (date to be announced), with David Costabile and Mika Abdalla.
Personal Details
Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, by father and producer-director Rob LaBelle. After schooling in Vancouver, LaBelle attended Concordia University in Montreal, where he studied theater while building his professional acting career. In 2022, LaBelle moved to Los Angeles to further develop his career after completing his role in The Fabelmans.
