Finn Wolfhard is closely identified with his performances in a range of movies and TV—especially his running role as Mike on Stranger Things (2016-present)—that blend horror, fantasy, and the supernatural, with his feature debut in the characteristic Stephen King adaptation, It (2017), as well as the simultaneously filmed It Chapter Two (2019), directed by Andy Muschietti and co-starring (in the first movie) Jaeden Lieberher, Bill Skarsgård, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Nicholas Hamilton—and, in the second movie, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, and Andy Bean, and earning a combined global gross of $1.17 billion for Warner Bros.

Wolfhard had a supporting role in the ensemble rom-com, Dog Days (2018), with Nina Dobrev, Vanessa Hudgens, Eva Longoria, Rob Corddry, and Tig Notaro, under Ken Marino’s direction. Wolfhard landed a major supporting role in the anticipated but disappointing movie adaptation of Donna Tartt’s landmark novel, The Goldfinch (2019), directed by John Crowley and co-starring Ansel Elgort, Oakes Fegley, Aneurin Barnard, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson, Jeffrey Wright, and Nicole Kidman, and bombing at the box office with a poor take of $10 million on a $49 million budget.

Wolfhard played the voice of Pugsley in the Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan-directed The Addams Family (2019), with Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Nick Kroll, Snoop Dogg, Bette Midler, Allison Janney, and proving a major hit with a nearly $204 million global gross. Finn Wolfhard appeared in the loopy, little-seen anthology indie, Omniboat: A Fast Boat Fantasia (2020), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was co-directed by 13 directors including the Oscar-winning The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), and then landed the major role of Trevor in the fourth movie in the Ghostbusters franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), directed by Jason Reitman and co-starring Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, Paul Rudd, and earning a strong $204.3 million on a $75 million budget.

Wolfhard co-starred with Julianne Moore in writer-director Jesse Eisenberg’s comedy-drama, When You Finish Saving the World (2022), premiering at the Sundance Film Festival and earning a miniscule $196,920 for distributor A24. Wolfhard’s second voice role was his first in an animated feature, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022), co-directed by Mark Gustafson and co-starring the voices of Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton, and which premiered at the London Film Festival.

Finn Wolfhard made his feature filmmaking debut as director/writer/producer/star (with collaborating filmmaker-actor Billy Bryk) of the horror comedy, Hell of a Summer (2023), which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, where it was the runner-up winner in TIFF’s People’s Choice Award in the festival’s popular Midnight Madness section. Wolfhard returned as Trevor in the sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2021), co-written by Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman and directed by Kenan, with Rudd as co-star.

Wolfhard continued his interest in working in fantastical genre movies as a co-star in director/writer/producer Isaiah Saxon’s fantasy-adventure, The Legend of Ochi (date to be announced), which was produced and released by A24.
