Colin Salmon, a veteran British film actor, is best known for his recurring role as MI6 deputy chief of staff Robinson in several James Bond movies, including Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002). Salmon shifted from a jazz music career to acting full-time in 1994, with his first feature film credit in director Angela Pope’s BBC Films crime drama, Captives, starring Tim Roth and Julia Ormond.
Salmon soon landed the plum role in the Bond movies, establishing him as a handsome and arresting screen presence in supporting roles. Salmon has worked with several world-class filmmakers, including Michael Apted (The World Is Not Enough in 1999), Norman Jewison (The Statement in 2003), Paul W. S. Anderson (Alien vs. Predator in 2004 and Resident Evil: Retribution in 2012), Don Boyd (My Kingdom in 2001), Woody Allen (Match Point in 2005), Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job in 2008), Peter Jackson (as a screenwriter, in Mortal Engines in 2018), and Andrew Baird (Zone 414 in 2021).

Colin Salmon was born in the London neighbourhood of Bethnal Green and raised in Luton in the British province of Bedfordshire, and raised by his mother Sylvia Salmon (nurse). He attended Ramridge Primary School and then graduated from Ashcroft High School.
In his late teens, Salmon performed in bands ranging from punk to jazz and played trumpet in a jazz quartet he organized. Salmon has been married to Fiona Hawthorne since 1988; the couple has four children, Ben, Sasha, Eden, and Rudi. Salmon’s height is 6’ 4”.
