Photographer / filmmaker, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, is known for his strikingly intimate portraits of world leaders and major cultural figures. From Presidents to porn stars, artists to Oscar winners, Greenfield-Sanders’ work defines a certain cultural photographic canon of our time.His portraits are in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston among many others. He has had numerous museum exhibitions of his portraiture including most recently at the National Portrait Gallery In Washington, D.C. and the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.Timothy Greenfield-Sanders produced and directed his first feature documentary in 1997 for {Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart (#12.4)}_, about the legendary rock musician. The film aired in April 1998 on the PBS Series American Masters and premiered in the United States at Sundance Film Festival and in Europe at The Berlin Film Festival. It screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide. In 1999 the film won a Grammy Award.In 2004 he produced and directed “Thinking XXX” for HBO, a project that also included a book, traveling exhibition of portraits, DVD and music CD. His 13 films to date include, “The Black List: Volumes 1, 2, and 3”, “The Latino List: Volumes 1 & 2”, “The Out List”, “About Face: Supermodels Then and Now”, “The Boomer List”, “The Women’s List”, “The Trans List”, and “Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am”.Greenfield-Sanders has published numerous books. They include: “Art World”, published in 1999 by Fotofolio, a collection of 700 portraits of artists, dealers, collectors, critics and curators taken over the last 20 years, “Timothy Greenfield-Sanders”, his first monograph, with an introduction by Francesco Clemente, “XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits” published by Bulfinch with an introduction by Gore Vidal, “Look”, published by Powerhouse, “Face to Face”, published by Skira with an introduction by Demetrio Paparoni, “The Black List”, published by Atria, “The Latino List”, published by LCP Publishers, and “The Black List 50”, published by LCP Publishers.Greenfield-Sanders’ latest film, “Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am” , opened in theater through Magnolia Pictures on June 21, 2019.In 2005 he was profiled on CBS’ “60 Minutes”. In 2015, he received the “Legend Award” from Pratt University. In 2017, he was profiled on CBS’ “Sunday Morning”.Greenfield-Sanders received his BA in Art History from Columbia University in New York and a Master’s Degree in film from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
