Rob Savage

Writer / Director

Birthdate – July 1, 1992 (32 Years Old)

Birthplace – England, United Kingdom

Rob Savage (birthname: Robert Savage) developed his filmmaking skills by making several shorts in the horror genre as a writer/director/producer/cinematographer/editor. Savage has made nine short films in this way, though after having made six of them, he made his debut feature, the acclaimed drama, Strings (2012), starring German actor Philine Lembeck, made for 3000 British pounds, and the winner of the British Independent Film Awards’ Raindance Award.

Savage made two more shorts before co-writing and directing a segment titled Dawn of the Deaf for the anthology feature, Girls on Film 2: Before Dawn (2016). After shorts and some episodic TV directing jobs, Savage co-wrote, produced, and directed his second feature and first full-length horror movie (inspired by the COVID-19 quarantine), Host (2020), with Haley Bishop, Jemma Moore, and Emma Louise Webb, and released by Shudder with a 99% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Rob Savage acted with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions as director, co-writer (with his regular co-writers Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd), and co-producer for Dashcam (2021), starring indie rock singer Annie Hardy, whose YouTube “Band Car” episodes inspired the film’s visual concept, and finishing runner-up in the People’s Choice Award for the Toronto film festival’s Midnight Madness lineup.

Savage served for the first time as director only on his first bigger-budget feature, the 20th Century Studios-produced and released The Boogeyman (2023), based on the Stephen King short story of the same title, and co-starring Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, and Vivien Lyra Blair. For his next horror movie for 20th Century Studios, Savage directed Night of the Ghoul (date to be announced), co-written by Francesco Francavilla and Scott Snyder.
