Clarkson is a British-born director who has earned a reputation, as IndieWire’s Liz Shannon Miller has reported, as “one of TV’s most reliable directors in recent years.” Clarkson began her career in the British theater, and then shifted into the animation field and then directing such British soap operas as EastEnders (2004) and Casualty (2003-2005).

Clarkson amassed a long and impressive roster of directing credits on such prestige and popular TV, cable, and streaming series as Succession (2018), Jessica Jones (2015), Anatomy of a Scandal (2022), the David Hare-written Collateral (2018), The Defenders (2017), Life on Mars (2006-2007), Ugly Betty (2010), Banshee (2013), Orange is the New Black (2014), Whitechapel (2009), Dexter (2009-2011), House (2011), TURN: Washington’s Spies (2014), Vinyl (2016), Bates Motel (2013), The Bridge (2013), Hostages (2013), Hunted (2012), Dig (2015), and Love Nina (2016).

After her twenty-plus years’ run on the small screen, Clarkson advanced to the big screen as co-writer and director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe feature, Madame Web (2024), starring Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott, and which was co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures, and released by Sony Pictures Releasing.
